1 John 1:5–7
This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.
═══ OPORD ═══
WHO: God (nature revealed); believers walking in light; those potentially walking in darkness (false teachers).
WHAT: A foundational declaration of God’s holy nature that demands honesty and exposes deception.
WHERE: In relationship with God and in community with other believers; light reveals and unites.
WHEN: This is both the eternal nature of God and the present reality believers must align with.
HOW: God’s light exposes our sin (justification requires honesty); walking in light means aligned living (sanctification); full light awaits when we see Him (glorification).
Light does not hide; it reveals. God’s light means He is holy, transparent, and incompatible with darkness. Justification begins when we admit we cannot hide our sin from this light. Sanctification proceeds as we walk in the light, allowing Him to show us areas needing transformation. Glorification arrives when we see Him fully, no longer dimly, and become like Him.
