1 John 2:18–19, 24
Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us… Let what you have heard from the beginning remain in you.
═══ OPORD ═══
WHO: False teachers (antichrists) departing from truth; believers called to remain steadfast; Christ as the center of truth.
WHAT: A warning about deception and a call to abide in foundational truth that produces security.
WHERE: In the church where false teaching can mislead and divide.
WHEN: The tension of ‘already’ and ‘not yet’; false teaching is already present; Christ’s final return is coming.
HOW: Justification gives us true knowledge; sanctification is holding fast to truth against deception; glorification will vindicate all who remain in Christ.
Abiding in Christ is not intellectual assent but lived relationship. False teachers depart from the community, but believers remain in truth. This is not passive; it is deliberate choosing to hold fast to what Christ taught from the beginning. Justification establishes us in Christ. Sanctification is remaining there despite pressures. Glorification is the reward of faithfulness.
