1 John 2:28–29
And now, dear children, continue in Him, so that when He appears we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming. If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of Him.
═══ OPORD ═══
WHO: Believers called to abide; Jesus at His appearing; the future judgment as motivation.
WHAT: Abiding now produces confidence at the parousia (Christ’s return).
WHERE: In present relationship with Jesus, oriented toward His future return.
WHEN: Now we abide; at His appearing we will be confident or ashamed (motivation for present faithfulness).
HOW: Justification gives us standing before God; sanctification is abiding that maintains relationship; glorification is boldness at His appearing.
Abiding is not one moment of decision but continuous remaining. The question ‘How will I face Him?’ is not just eschatological but practical. Present obedience produces future boldness. Justification establishes our legal standing. Sanctification is the day-to-day alignment that makes us comfortable with His presence. Glorification is when we stand before Him with complete assurance.
═══ PRAYER ═══
Jesus, help me abide in You so consistently that when You appear, I will not be ashamed but confident in Your presence. Let today’s faithfulness shape tomorrow’s boldness.
